QR-porn

The MODEZ hotel, lying in Arnhem asked various designers to design a room. One of the desingers called Antoine Peters designed a room with a lot of QR-code inspiration.

The result? A black and white room buried under the qr codes. From wallpaper to lamp to bed at everything Qr language.

However, there’s a story behind it. This qr codes that can be found everywhere in you can really use. Scan them with your phone and you’ll Techt come in the world of porn. Why porn? Most people think at porn or sex when they think at technology (read:tv) in a hotel room. You now the dirty channels in this hotel rooms right?

Peters said: “The room has an abstract look, but actually you’re surrounded by porn. Abstraction of the room symbolizes the fact that piquancies always be hidden from view, but I think they just belong in a hotel room. Besides, are today we are not constantly surrounded by porn? “

I think it’s quit cool and especially the secretes and shame most people have behind using these porn channels. This thing Peters did is a kind of joke to this mysterious thing behind using porn channels.

DAD

A first concept devised by OPA wich offers a permanent platform for anyone who actually find art and desing interesting. The OPA (design platform arnhem) is a foundation that encourages designers in Arnhem. According by OPA you can immerse yourself into art and design so deeply as you want. Things you can do in DAD are for example, rent a workplace, get inspired by and ask for feedback. Also you can get some coffe and pie if you’re only hungry and if that’s not what you’re looking for, you can still use the mini cinema or use the party lounge if you feel like party. The exhibition space that DAD has can be found at the back of the building wich you reach by a painted wall. This exhibition change every six weeks of theme.

Very cool concept, definitely worth a visit and especially because there’s lot to do for everyone. It’ doesn’t matter wich level of knowledge or interest you have in art and design. It’s a sort of  ‘concept store’ but then with a museum.  It’s more than only a museum and much more than just watching, you can work, inspire, enjoy, relax and socialize. It gives you a different perspective on design than you may first thought.

we’re flying high

In London the want in 2020 at least 1.5 million people by bike to work or other places. Very nice, healthy and responsible all but dangerous as well. Think of all buses, cars and moters which already provide for long traffic jam on the London roads. With 1.5 million cyclists this would be asking for trouble don’t’ you think?

So, the Office Exterior Architecture figured out a concept where the bikes will be no longer on the ground, but as the title aloud, in the air! The creators of this concept called ‘Boris Bikes’  says that the railway arch and bridges of the London train rail administrator have enough place for a bike path that will crosses London.

Cost? £ 1

Higher and faster

A swing and music, not exactly two activities that you will combine together quickly. The Canadian desingcollectief ‘Daily Tous Les Jours’ have placed seven sets with special swings in the city Montreal, called ’21 Balancoires’. The swings all have a sound like a piano, xylophone or a ‘secret’ mode. So if you will you can play music with the one next to you.
Especially the concepts ‘together’ and  ’play’ important in this concept. I find this an interesting initiative because it’s not only for young childs but also adults can think this is interesting. This concept fits well with the trend that not only young people but also adults want to play and enjoy the good things in life

It’s a coconut tree!

Coconut fiber is a residual. Mainly used in agriculture to prevent freezing of the soil and known as the famous, not particularly trendy coconut mats and them certainly not trendy ‘welcome’ text.

Jorrit Taekema, designer at Studio Frederik Roijé wasn’t very positive about the use of coconut fiber so he search for a new place for the coconut fiber.  Below you see the result.

A chair made from waste coconut fibers and latex. Although the question remains whether he will actually enjoy sitting, because he used different layers it looks like it’s comfortable. The material reminds me of a sponge and the different layers makes this chair remind me of a mid-cut tree.

This object is a typical example of the issue;  how can you give residual a new function?
Personally I find the seat looks quite cheap, messy and a different color would not become. Yet, on the other hand, the appearance of this chair fits what Jorrit want to radiate. Give residual a function. It is and remains ‘residual’ so do not expect high art.

Coolhunts TCA

Coolhunt 2, strawberry Earth

what is it?

Strawberry earth is created by Mette te Velde together with Ikenna Azuike. It’s inspired by initiatives from New York and the designers of this platform wanted to create trough creativity and optimism till grean solusions. Strawberry earth started first as a blog filled with sustainabillity design and other green initiatives. When the blog  was found by the early adopters, Mette and Ikenna started with organize party’s.

also, environmentally conscious people can sign up for the ‘Green Film Making Competion’.  This is in cooperation wiht the Ministry for Economic business. In this competition the moviemakers don’t only asssessed for their creativity, but also on the sustainabillity level of their movie. The competion starts on the festival itselfs.

why is it cool?

Sustainabillity is a word that doesnt have that much impact on us anymore. This is because it’s used so much and for anything  we can imagine. So actually,  we’re immune for this word. This Festival is another way to show people to be careful with the earth. The only difference is that is isn’t really visible. Besides with this kind of festival people be entertainment. the get something for in return. They don’t have the feeling they really have to give something back.

Zij laten mij juist ‘out of the box ‘ denken.
